Missing Persons/Runaways
Nothing is more devastating to a a family than to have a loved one missing, and not knowing if they are safe, or what situation they may be in while missing.
The first 48 hours of any missing person case is very critical in developing and following up leads. There are lots of people to interview for possible information, family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers or schoolmates.
Many local law enforcement agencies simply do not have the resources and available manpower to follow up with extensive interviews. No law enforcement agency takes these cases lightly, but unfortunately they can only allocate so many resources and still keep up with the day-to-day call response for services. These interviews may be the only information that can give you a small piece of the puzzle or information which results in locating the missing loved one. Also, most missing persons cases cross municipal boundaries, which involve more than one local law enforce-
ment agencies, thus making the situation even more difficult for them to investigate.
If you have a loved one that suddenly disappears, then immediately use all of your resources. Call neighbors and family members, let them know what happened and ask them to help make calls and check local areas for the person. Post missing person notices to alert the general public as soon as possible in case someone has seen the individual. Follow up on any possible lead, no matter how remote the chances it may be the person. Be organized in your approach and document what has been checked, who had been interivewed, and what locations have been checked.
